At the end of Term 1, our Year 3 cohort enjoyed their first excursion of the year to Morialta Conservation Park. It was a fantastic day filled with learning, exploration and connection to nature.
We were fortunate to be joined by Drew from Walking Together With Kaurna, who shared his knowledge of Indigenous history and the deep cultural connections to Morialta. Through storytelling and personal reflections, students gained a meaningful understanding of the significance of the land, as well as an appreciation of the Kaurna people’s deep and ongoing connection to Country.
Throughout the day, students participated in a nature walk and scavenger hunt along one of the park’s trails, encouraging curiosity and observation of the natural environment. They also engaged in hands-on activities, including measuring tree trunks to estimate their age and grinding grains to experience how First Nations peoples traditionally made flour.
At the playspace, students explored and identified the many thoughtful connections to First Nations culture embedded in the design.
Overall, it was a great day, with students making strong connections to their learning in our Inquiry unit on 'Community and Change'.
