Middle School Programs

Middle School at King's

The middle years are a time of change for students and parents. We partner with you to help your child navigate this transition from child to teenager by creating the perfect balance of dependence, interdependence and independence; instilling the fact that with rights come responsibilities. Building positive relationships is essential; we aim for our adolescents to have authentic connections and a sense of being seen, a sense of being valued and a sense of belonging.

The King’s Middle School curriculum is structured around two main ‘pillars’; Christian Education and the Australian Curriculum. We are in a unique position to also be able to blend the two so that Christian teaching can infiltrate, and in fact give meaning to, the learning areas. The Middle School curriculum is supported by enriching Core Programs, alongside Additional Programs and Co-Curricular offerings to support each student's individual learning journey and personal growth.

Learning in Years 6-9

At King’s, learning goes beyond the classroom. Our Christ-centred approach to education is designed to ignite curiosity, encourage deep thinking, and foster lifelong learning. From our Early Learners through to our Year 12 graduates, students are supported by passionate educators who tailor learning experiences to each child’s needs and potential.

Across all year levels, our modern curriculum integrates foundational skills, critical thinking, and real-world problem-solving, empowering students to flourish academically and personally.

Every Year 6-Year 9 student at King’s will take part in a variety of programs that are embedded into the Middle School experience. These activities are designed to support learning, build confidence and create lasting memories through hands-on experiences, leadership opportunities and community connection.

Our Core Programs include:

We partner with families to support each student as they navigate the transition from childhood to adolescence and beyond, fostering the right balance of dependence, interdependence and independence. Through this, students are encouraged to build positive relationships that help them feel seen, valued and a genuine sense of belonging within our community.

Our Middle School students have access to a broad range of subjects and rich opportunities that inspire them to explore their interests and uncover their unique gifts, talents and passions. From Year 9, they are further empowered to shape their own learning pathway through flexible subject selections, giving them the confidence and courage to pursue their future with purpose.

Our passionate educators design engaging, purposeful learning experiences that equip students with foundational skills, critical thinking and real-world problem-solving abilities, helping them to grow academically, personally and spiritually.

Co-Curricular Programs

At King’s, we believe some of the most powerful learning happens beyond the classroom. Our students are given every opportunity to discover who they are and what ignites their passion. We see the whole world as a source of wonder and a place where each student can make a meaningful contribution.

Through a wide range of co-curricular and service learning programs, students are encouraged to explore new interests, build friendships, and grow in confidence. We believe every child has God-given talents to be nurtured, and our co-curricular opportunities are designed to develop those gifts, helping students deepen their skills and flourish in all areas of life.

Middle School Signature Programs

King’s is proud to offer a number of Signature Programs that are distinctive to our school and reflect our values, vision and commitment to excellence. Our programs are designed to grow students’ resilience, character and faith. They’re about more than content - they’re about forming the whole child and preparing young people for school life, and beyond.

The Duke of Edinburgh is an internationally recognised award. It empowers young people to realise their full potential and build a brighter future. Each person who participates in the Award learns a skill, improves their physical well-being, volunteers in their community and undertakes an adventurous journey within a team.

At King’s, we believe in giving our students every opportunity to be their best self. Through encouraging students to improve and challenge themselves, the Duke of Ed guides students on a journey to find their meaning, purpose and passion in life. Duke of Ed is not about being the best at something - it is about challenge, commitment, improvement and contribution.

At King’s, we are centred on fostering a vibrant sense of community and connection, placing Jesus at the core of all our endeavours. The King’s House system, established in 1987, is an integral part of school life, encompassing four school Houses: Baldock (green), Brimblecombe (red), Warren (blue), and White (yellow).

From the moment students and staff join King’s, they are welcomed into one of these Houses, beginning a journey that spans their entire school experience. This connection extends into Senior School, where Pastoral classes are organised by House, creating a supportive environment that nurtures both academic and personal growth.

In Middle School, House culture is brought to life weekly as part of our Pastoral Care line, where students engage in team-building challenges and activities, earning points and building camaraderie. House spirit is also at the heart of key school events, including the annual House Games, Cross Country and Arts Day, fostering healthy competition, collaboration and a strong sense of belonging.

King’s has a proud tradition of producing high-quality musical productions through our annual Middle/Senior School Musical. Open to students in Years 7-12, this captivating co-curricular program invites students to audition, rehearse and collaborate to present some of Broadway’s most beloved shows, bringing them to life in front of enthusiastic audiences from across our school community and beyond.

More than just a performance, our musicals offer an immersive experience where students gain valuable insight into both on-stage and behind-the-scenes roles, from acting, dancing and singing, to lighting, sound and set design.

With guidance from passionate, experienced staff and volunteers, students refine their skills, build confidence and discover new passions in a fun and supportive environment that allows them to discover their full creative potential. Performed in our state-of-the-art auditorium, these productions provide an authentic, professional theatre experience, helping students understand the dynamics of live performance and the hard work that goes into a successful show.

In Year 9, students at King’s embark on a transformative journey through The Rite Journey program – a signature of our Middle School curriculum for the past ten years. This year-long program is thoughtfully designed to guide students through the transition from childhood to adulthood, equipping them with the skills and mindset they’ll need for the challenges that face them in Senior School and beyond. With a focus on personal growth, The Rite Journey encourages students to explore and discover consciousness, connection, communication, challenge and celebration, fostering deeper self-awareness and resilience during this pivotal time.

The program revolves around four essential questions:

  • Who am I really?
  • How do I get along with others?
  • Is there something more?
  • What do I have to give?

Throughout the year, students engage in meaningful experiences in collaboration with their classmates, Pastoral teachers and families, and engage in a series of service learning projects as they explore their connection and contribution to our community – locally and globally. Each event is designed to challenge students, encourage empathy and strengthen their connection to the world around them.

At King’s, we firmly believe that the wellbeing and mental health of our students is integral to their overall academic success and personal growth. As such, we are committed to providing a nurturing environment that supports their emotional, social and psychological needs.

King’s has engaged the following tools to support the mental health and wellbeing of our students:

  • Lifewell: An Adelaide-based Christian counselling service for our students and their families. Operating from the King’s Community Centre, LifeWell has a team of qualified and experienced counsellors who specialise in child and adolescent counselling, family therapy and mental health support.
  • Pulse: A tool for measuring student wellbeing and engagement week-to-week. Once a week, Pulse sends students an email to complete a ‘check-in’, allowing our staff to track the ongoing wellbeing of each individual and respond to those who request help.
  • Qustodio: A solution powered by our partnership with Linewize that allows us to take a more proactive and holistic approach to supporting each student's digital wellbeing journey at King’s. Qustodio empowers parents to monitor and manage their children's online activity, promoting safe, balanced and healthy screen habits.

By integrating these tools and services, we create a safe and nurturing environment that fosters not only academic success but also personal resilience and emotional growth, helping students navigate their journey with confidence and balance.
