Subject Overview
Year 10 Work Ready English is designed for those who are seeking to meet the SACE literacy requirement, students planning to pursue a career in a range of trades or vocational pathways, and those intending to continue their study of English. In Work Ready English, students respond to and create texts in and for a range of personal, social, cultural, community, and/or workplace contexts. Students understand and interpret information, ideas and perspectives in texts and consider ways in which language choices are used to create meaning. There is an emphasis on communication, comprehension, analysis, and text creation.
Students undertake study in Year 10 Work Ready English through a selection of the following topics:
- Media Study
- Explanation
- Website Analysis
- Film Study
- Instructional Video
- Analysis of a Shared Novel
- Creative Writing
- Intertextual Study
Assessment
Stage 1 assessment is comprised of 100% school-based assessment. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
- Assessment Type 1: Responding to Texts (50%)
- Assessment Type 2: Creating Texts (50%)
- This subject does not have an Examination at the end of the semester.
