At King’s, our mission to foster a strong sense of community and connection is reflected in every corner of school life. With Jesus at the centre, our students are encouraged to live out their God-given potential through shared experiences that build unity, resilience and joy. One of the most powerful expressions of this is our House system - established in 1987 - which continues to be a cornerstone of school culture.
In Term 1, we witnessed the full vibrancy of the House system through a series of House Games events across Junior, Middle and Senior School. Held throughout March, each event brought students together in friendly competition, celebration and connection, while reinforcing the values that define our community.
The Junior School House Games brought students from Years 3-5 together in a day of fun, fitness and fellowship. While the weather proved unpredictable, spirits remained high as students gave their best in every event. Guided by the leadership of our Year 10 students - who played an invaluable role in running activities - the day provided meaningful opportunities for connection across year levels. The FISHER principles were beautifully lived out, with students encouraging one another and showing great sportsmanship throughout the day. It was a true celebration of God-given ability, effort and character.
During the Middle School House Games event, students lit up the oval with energy and enthusiasm. Students in Years 6-9 embraced the challenge of both individual and team events, showcasing not only their athleticism but their commitment to their Houses. A highlight of the day was the traditional House chants – a treasured tradition that continues to unite students from Junior School through to Senior School. The day concluded with a joyful celebration in the gym, where White House was crowned the winner after a very close tally of points. It was a day that celebrated effort, unity and the unique spirit of every House.
For the final House Games event, our Senior School students took to the fields under clear blue skies. The atmosphere was filled with laughter, energy and healthy competition as students competed in both individual track and field events and a variety of team games including netball, soccer, volleyball and the always-popular tug-of-war. The opening ceremony featured powerful chants led by our Year 12 House Captains - a moment that set the tone for a day full of passion and pride. With support from 55 staff members and volunteers, including several Old Scholars, the event was a seamless and memorable day.
Across all three events, it was clear that the King’s House system is about much more than competition. It is a celebration of belonging, teamwork, leadership and joy - shared across year levels and sub-schools. Through these events, our students grow not only in skill and confidence, but in connection with one another and the wider school community.
We are grateful to every student, staff member and volunteer who made these events possible - and we eagerly anticipate the Early Years Sports Day event for our Reception-Year 2 students later in the year.
