  • Pre-Requisite Information: Highly Desirable Knowledge: At least a C grade in Year 10 Music

Subject Overview

In Music A students develop their knowledge and understanding of music and relevant techniques to become more confident and competent performers. Students focus on developing their practical technique on their chosen instrument(s) and develop solo and ensemble performance skills across a variety of genres. Students extend their theory knowledge and aural skills through song writing, composition, and arranging analysis and musicianship activities.

Students also reflect on their own creative works and those of others. Students undertake study in Stage 1 Music A through the following topics:

  • Creative Works - Performance
  • Creative Works - Composition/Songwriting
  • Musical Literacy - Understanding Music Styles
  • Musical Literacy - Reflection on Creative Works

Assessment

Stage 1 assessment is comprised of 100% school-based assessment. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Assessment Type 1: Creative Works (60%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Musical Literacy (40%)

Examination:

  • This subject does not have an examination at the end of the semester
