Subject Overview
This stream of Stage 1 English is designed for students who plan to continue into the Stage 2 English Literary Studies pathway. In Semester Two of English (Literary Studies), students analyse the interrelationship between the author, text and audience, looking at how language and stylistic features shape ideas and perspectives. They consider the social, cultural or historical perspectives in texts and their representation of human experience and the world. Students also explore how the purpose of a text is achieved through application of text conventions and stylistic choices to position the audience to respond to ideas and perspectives.
An understanding of purpose, audience and context is then applied in students’ own creation of imaginative, interpretive, analytical, and persuasive texts. Students have opportunities to reflect on their personal values and those of others. Responses are presented in written, oral and/or multimodal forms.
Students undertake study in Stage 1 English (Literary Studies) B through the following topics:
- Poetry Study
- Film Study
- Multimodal Creative Task
- Independent Intertextual Study
