Stage 1 English

About this Learning Area

Learning Area Leader: Keryn Allan

At King’s Baptist Grammar School, Stage 1 English offers three pathways: English, English (Literary Studies) and Essential English. English (Literary Studies) and Essential English are selected based on recommendations from Year 10 English teachers and the Student Diversity team.

Students who choose English or English (Literary Studies) typically enjoy reading and discussing literature, as well as exploring how authors use language and techniques. These students also create their own texts and reflect on the creative process. English (Literary Studies) further extends this by developing students’ understanding of alternative interpretations of texts.

Students who complete 20 credits of a Stage 1 English subject with a C grade or better, or any Stage 2 English subject with a C– grade or better, will meet the literacy requirement of the SACE.
