Stage 1 Metals Fabrications

Subject Overview

This semester, students will focus on developing Metals Fabrication skills. Students develop skills in CAD (Computer Aided Design), basic metal fabrication, use of hand tools and workshop machines, MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding, and oxy-acetylene welding. Students’ work is assessed through two specialised skills assessment tasks, as well as a design process and solution task where students design and produce their own project within a set design brief.

Students undertake study in Stage 1 Metals Engineering through the following topics:

  • Metal Fabrication
  • CAD Drawing and Sketching
  • Welding Equipment (MIG/Oxy-Acetylene)

Assessment

Stage 1 assessment is comprised of 100% school-based assessment. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Assessment Type 1: Skills and Application (50%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Design Process and Solution (50%)

Examination:

  • This subject does not have an examination at the end of the semester
