Subject Overview

In Stage 1 German (Continuers), students interact with others to share information, ideas, opinions and experiences. They create texts in German to express information, feelings, ideas and opinions. Students analyse texts to interpret meaning, examine relationships between language and culture and identify, and reflect on the ways in which culture influences communication. In Semester One, students study the German school system, the world of work and key language and grammatical concepts, along with completing an investigation.

Students undertake study in Stage 1 German (Continuers) A through the following prescribed theme:

  • The Individual
  • The German Speaking Communities
  • The Changing World

Assessment

Stage 1 assessment is comprised of 100% school-based assessment. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Assessment Type 1: Interaction (20%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Text Production (20%)
  • Assessment Type 3: Text Analysis (20%)
  • Assessment Type 4: Investigation (40%)

Examination:

  • This subject has a 130 minute online examination at the end of the semester.
