Year 10 Child Studies

About this Subject

  • Length of Study: One Semester

Subject Overview

Year 10 Child Studies incorporates a range of practical, theoretical and creative design skills that encompass learning about children aged 0-8 years old.

Students learn about the various stages of childhood development through play, reading, observation and research.

Students have the opportunity to work closely with Junior Primary students to directly observe and interact with them, using educational games and experiences to investigate how young children learn.

A practical learning approach is implemented through collaboration and individual work. In particular, this is broken into cognitive development, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, language development, numeracy and social/emotional development.

The practical elements of the course are supported by the study and understanding of educational theories.

As part of the course, students apply for their Working With Children Check (WWCC), if they don’t already have one.

Students undertake study in Year 10 Child Studies through the following topics:

  • Children and Books (Benefit of Reading Approach)
  • Practical Experience Journal
  • Children and Play (Toy Safety and Educational Toys)
