Year 10 Furniture Construction

About this Subject

Subject Overview

This materials based course provides a safe, practical environment where students design, make and appraise to produce a major project.

Students will be introduced to a wide range of workshop machinery, power tools and hand tools, including set-up and safe handling practices.

In addition, students will advance their knowledge in CAD to produce accurate drawings, assemblies and cutting lists and use this to inform the production of the major project.

These essential furniture design and construction skills will serve them well when building larger, more detailed furniture in Years 11 and 12.

Students undertake study in Year 10 Furniture Construction through the following topics:

  • Safe Use of Workshop Machinery
  • Timber Ecosystems
  • Finishes
  • Timber
  • CAD

Assessment

Year 10 assessment is comprised of 100% school-based assessment. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Product Folio: CAD Drawing, Assembly and Orthographic Drawings, Product Record and Evaluation (60%)
  • Practical Work: Designed Product (40%)

Examination:

  • This subject does not have an Examination at the end of the semester.
