Pathway: This qualification provides a route to work as instructor providing exercise instruction for group, aqua or gym programs.

Further Study: Students will be provided extensive education and training in the following areas:

  • Anatomy and Physiology: Understanding anatomical and physiological systems of the human body is crucial for designing safe and effective exercise programs.
  • Fitness Program Design: Developing and instructing programs for individuals and groups, including gym-based and group fitness programs.
  • Nutrition: Gaining basic knowledge of healthy eating principles to support clients in achieving their nutritional goals.
  • Communication and Client Interaction: Developing effective communication and education skills to interact with clients, provide guidance, and motivate.

Stage 2 Pathway: Students aiming to complete the Stage 2 in Physical Education should select this Pathway.

Career Pathways:

  • Upon completion you can work as a gym instructor or group fitness instructor.
  • You may work independently with some autonomy in controlled environments like fitness, leisure, and community centres.
  • Some individuals may specialise in areas like aqua exercise or group fitness instruction.
  • The Certificate III in Fitness is a stepping stone to further studies such as a Certificate IV in Fitness (Personal Training).
  • Physiotherapy, Human Movement, Occupational Therapy and PE Teaching.

Selection Criteria

Students may be asked to complete an interview and select this course if one or more of the following apply:

  • Display academic success in relevant PE subjects, including the Specialist PE course.
  • Intend to pursue a career in the Fitness or Health Industry.
  • Aspire to complete Stage 2 Physical Education to a high standard.
  • Complete the Language, Literacy and Numeracy.

Face-to-face practical workshops, self-paced learning modules and field experience opportunities provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills required to successfully complete their studies.

The course is delivered with the normal allocated lessons for Physical Education at Stage 1 (five lessons per week) over the whole year.

Assessment

The course covers competency-based modules, consisting of several key practical assessments, as well as written tasks for each module. Students will be required to complete homework regularly throughout this course.

ATAR:

A completed Certificate III in Fitness will contribute a maximum of 100 Stage 2 SACE credits and can be used towards a student’s ATAR calculation at the end of Year 12.

Subject Fee

Please note: This subject incurs a resource fee of $900.
