Subject Overview

Stage 1 Outdoor Education consists of three focus areas. The learning through these focus areas enable students to develop and extend the core skills, knowledge and understanding required to be safe, active, and informed participants in the natural environment. The core skills, knowledge and understanding are integrated in each of the focus areas and developed through experiential learning in the context of activities and journeys in natural environments.

Students study all focus areas.

  • Environment and Conservation
  • Planning and Management
  • Personal Growth and Development

The King’s Outdoor Education Year 11 curriculum provides students the opportunity to learn to apply specialised technical skills and reflect on their personal, group and social development. These focus areas are developed as part of the following activities:

  • Introduction to Rock Climbing
  • Bushwalking
  • Aquatic Focus

Stage 1 Outdoor Education A will involve one-to-two compulsory camp experiences and/or day trips.

Assessment

Stage 1 assessment is comprised of 100% school-based assessment. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • Assessment Type 1: About Natural Environments (30%)
  • Assessment Type 2: Experiences in Natural Environments (70%)

Examination:

  • This subject does not have an Examination at the end of the semester

Subject Fee

Please note: this subject incurs a resource fee $500.
