Stage 1 Mathematics

About this Learning Area

Learning Area Leader: Chris Archer

Mathematics equips students with essential skills and knowledge across Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. It supports numeracy development for everyday life and provides a foundation for mathematical specialties and professional applications. The curriculum emphasises understanding, fluency, reasoning and problem-solving, helping students respond to both familiar and unfamiliar situations with effective strategies and informed decisions.

Students studying Year 10 Mathematics can progress to Stage 1 General Mathematics, and with teacher recommendation, Mathematical Methods. Those who complete Year 10 Mathematical Methods may go on to study Stage 1 General Mathematics, Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics. Stage 1 Specialist Mathematics is intended to be studied alongside Stage 1 Mathematical Methods.
