Subject Overview

Creative Arts provides opportunities for students to develop the practical, production technique, research and analytical skills associated with their role in developing a product - for example, school musical, Creative Arts Production, theatre, music or film production, as well as developing a deeper understanding the art form itself. Students focus on improving their performance or production techniques and reflect on their progress; research practitioners of their chosen field and develop an essential skill set they identify as being specific to their creative interests.

Success in this subject requires regular practice of the skills required for the role being undertaken and completion of all tasks within the time given.

Students undertake study in Stage 2 Creative Arts through the following topics:

  • Inquiry into a practitioner or production role
  • Product, or on or off-stage role, or resolved artwork
  • Skill development

Assessment

Stage 2 assessment is comprised of 70% school-based assessment which is externally moderated by the SACE Board and 30% external assessment which is externally marked by the SACE Board. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

70% School Based Assessment:

Assessment Type 1: Inquiry (20%)

  • Investigation into a chosen practitioner OR technique OR the role and responsibilities of a specific production role

Assessment Type 2: Product (50%)

  • Completion of a role in a production (on or off-stage) or resolved artwork
  • Folio of evidence

30% External Assessment:

  • An investigation into the development of a practical skill of the student’s choice
