Subject Overview
Students develop ensemble performance skills as well as aural perception, musical sensitivity, and an awareness of style, structure and historical conventions. They participate in regular rehearsals and performances, and contribute to the cohesiveness of the ensemble and engage the audience.
Students undertake study in Stage 2 Ensemble Performance through the following topics:
- Ensemble Performance Technique
- Part Testing
- Music Analysis and Discussion
- Reflection on Performances
Assessment
Stage 2 assessment is comprised of 70% school-based assessment which is externally moderated by the SACE Board and 30% external assessment which is externally marked by the SACE Board. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
70% School Based Assessment:
Assessment Type 1: Performance (30%)
- Live ensemble performance of a single work or a set of works by one or more composers
- Individual part testing
Assessment Type 2: Performance and Discussion (40%)
- Live ensemble performance of a single work or a set of works by one or more composers
- Individual part testing
- A discussion of key musical elements of the chosen repertoire, with a critique of strategies to improve and refine the student’s performance
30% External Assessment:
- An ensemble performance of a musical work or works, and individual evidence of each student’s contribution to the ensemble through individual part-testing
- An individual evaluation of their learning journey
