Subject Overview
Students develop skills in aural perception and musical sensitivity, and preparing and presenting public performances. They develop an awareness of style, structure and historical conventions in solo performance. Students extend their technical and performance skills on their chosen instrument or their voice, and use this expertise as a means of developing musical expression.
Students undertake study in Stage 2 Solo Performance through the following topics:
- Solo Performance Technique
- Music Analysis and Discussion
- Reflection on Performances
Assessment
Stage 2 assessment is comprised of 70% school-based assessment which is externally moderated by the SACE Board and 30% external assessment which is externally marked by the SACE Board. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:
70% School Based Assessment:
Assessment Type 1: Performance (30%)
- Live solo performance of a single work or a set of works by one or more composers
Assessment Type 2: Performance and Discussion (40%)
- Live solo performance of a single work or a set of works by one or more composers
- A discussion of key musical elements of the chosen repertoire, with a critique of strategies to improve and refine the student’s performance
30% External Assessment:
- Students present a solo performance portfolio consisting of a live solo performance of a musical work or works and an evaluation of their learning journey
