Subject Overview
Students complete a Visual Study of their own choice. A Visual Study is an exploration of, and/or experimentation with, one or more styles, ideas, concepts, media, materials, methods, techniques, technologies or processes. Students base their exploration and/or experimentation on critical analysis of the work of other practitioners, individual research, and the development of visual thinking and/or technical skills.
The Folio component is the documentation of the students’ visual learning through the development of a student-initiated concept. This could be in the form of 2D art, 3D art, or photography. A maximum of 40x A3 pages explores ideas, concepts, art analysis, media and technique experimentation and skill development, critical thinking and problem solving. The Folio can support two separate concepts (approximately 20 pages each) or one extensive concept, body of artwork (maximum of 40 pages). Folio concepts are negotiated with the art teacher.
The resolved artworks from the development of the Folio component form the Practical component. A written Practitioner’s Statement supports artworks - two statements for two separate artworks or one statement for a body of artwork.
Students undertake study in Stage 2 Visual Art - Art through the following topics:
- Folio
- Practical and Practitioner’s Statement
- Visual Study
