Year 9 Advanced Manufacturing

Subject Overview

This materials-based course aims to provide a safe, practical environment where students design, make and appraise all their work.

The course focuses on the safe use of workshop machinery, power tools and hand tools specific to the construction of timber framing for their timepiece. Students will work with various materials and computer-aided drawing and modern technologies like 3D printers and CNC routers to produce parts for their timepiece.

Throughout this process, students evaluate their design ideas, processes and solutions against comprehensive criteria for success and the need for sustainability.

Students undertake study in Year 9 Advanced Manufacturing through the following topics:

  • XCarve CNC Router
  • 3D Printer
  • CAD Software
